Course Contents

Tango Apiladoa and Milonguero are sometimes used to describe the same thing, but not always. Milonguero is also used for other things like people who have dance a LOT (several decades) of tango. Apilado is the past participle of apilar which translates from Spanish to English as "to pile up".
Most of this course is about "piling up" the follower (female role) against the leader (male role). This can look like leaning, but that can imply one person is holding the other up. Another way to desribe Tango Apilado might be to say that the follower has committed/given some of their weight to the leader. The result can be very connected dancing with many possibilities for little intricate movements (X-ing steps, for example) and things that look big, such as volcadas, which are quite subtle uses of the embrace.
  • Music: rhythm, phrasing and melody
  • Improved embrace (close embrace) and posture
  • Posture for Apilado/Milonguero
