the 1times1 universal code of tango etiquette
Exception to The "Three-To-One" Rule
There are rare instances where the Three-To-One Rule does not apply. The one that leaps to my mind is The Case of the Perfect Partner.
Sometimes you find a Perfect Partner and well, damn it, life is short and these things are rare and God Bless You, you should dance with them until you can dance no more. It would be totally inane to cut short your dancing because you feel a pressure to conform to the Rules of Etiquette. That would be to handle such a Gift in a careless and cavalier way. No: at such times, social concerns need not enter into your consciousness at all. No one else who likes to dance with you matters. All that matters is exploring in detail the world you've discovered with this individual.
Be assured, you may make who are accustomed to dancing with you a little jealous! But, part of what we work on in Tango is cultivating equanimity and freeing ourselves of expecations. Your Imperfect Partners will find their own balance in the community without you.
Special thanks
to Javier for making me see this through his Inspired Partnership with Moira.
