About us

CamTango runs weekly milongas on Tuesday evenings and Bank Holiday tea dances. We're based at the St Paul's Centre, Hills Road, Cambridge, UK.

Camtango was the first tango club to be set up in Cambridge in 1997 by Stef Gogolein. Working together with Mike Rose, she built a very significant tango scene in Cambridge. The most invited teachers at that time were maestros Rodolfo Agueroddi and Mihoko Omachi who visited regularly from Buenos Aires and worked hard to help grow the numbers and skills of Cambridge dancers.

In 2006 John Connatty took over from Stef and Mike. Over almost 20 years he worked to build CamTango into a vibrant and welcoming group of dancers. Besides the week to week running of the Tuesday milongas he has organised Cambridge Festivalitos and the celebrated Bank Holiday tea dances. He invited many visiting maestros to Cambridge, including Carlitos and Noelia, Marko and Maja, Murat and Michelle, and brought international DJs to the tea dances and Tuesday milongas.

As of 2026 CamTango is run on a non-profit basis by Angelina, Derek, Jessica, John O and Katriona, a group of organisers committed to continuing John Connatty's legacy of a welcoming community and excellent DJs.
